Unblocked checkers for school, work and the library

Checkers Online is unblocked checkers that opens in an ordinary browser tab. Players at schools, offices and libraries trust it, and it often works on school and work networks where game sites are blocked. Pick an opponent on the board above and start.

Every school, company and library sets its own filter, so we can't promise the page opens on every network. Please play within your school's or workplace's rules.

Why it often loads on protected networks

  • A normal web page: the game runs inside the tab you already have open. There is no download, no plugin and no Flash.
  • No sign-up: you don't need an account or an email address to play.
  • No pop-ups: the page never opens extra windows.
  • A small page: it loads fast, even on busy shared wifi.
  • Offline once loaded: after one game against the computer with a connection, those games keep working without the internet. You can install the site as an app too.
  • Family-friendly: the site is checkers, rules, lessons and puzzles. Nothing on it is out of place in a classroom.

Who you can play on a break

  • The computer: four levels, from beginner to hard. Beginner suits a five-minute break. Hard takes real thought to beat.
  • The person next to you: press 2 Players and share one screen.
  • Someone online: Play Online pairs you with another player, or you can create a private game and send the link or code to a friend in another room. It works like the old Internet Checkers game from Windows.

Play Online games are rated with Glicko-2, guests included, so your rating grows even without an account. The ratings page explains how it works.

The rules for a quick game

The board plays standard American checkers. Each side starts with 12 men on the dark squares, and Black goes first. A man steps one square diagonally forward. Captures are compulsory: when you can jump, you have to, and the piece keeps jumping in the same turn as long as it can. With two jumps open, pick either one. A man that reaches the far row is crowned, and a king steps one square in any diagonal direction. Take every enemy piece, or leave the other side with no legal move, to win. If your class plays with optional jumps, use checkers with no forced jump instead. Diagrams and the full rules are on the checkers rules page.

Same game on a Chromebook, laptop, tablet or phone

School Chromebooks, work laptops, tablets and phones all run it in the browser. Tap a piece and then its new square, or drag it there. A game against the computer or on one screen saves on the device, so when the bell rings you can come back to it later.

More to play in the same tab

Want a game with no captures at all? Chinese Checkers is here, against the computer, a friend online or a second player on one screen. There are 13 more versions of draughts, such as International Draughts on a 10×10 board and Russian checkers, all side by side in the checkers variants guide. Short on time? Solve the daily puzzle.

Frequently asked questions

Is Checkers Online unblocked at school?

Often, yes. Students play it at school every day. It is a plain web page with no download or plugin, so there is less for a filter to object to. Each school runs its own filter, so we can't promise it opens on yours. If the page loads, the whole game works.

Can I play unblocked checkers at work?

On many office networks, yes. The game lives in one browser tab and installs nothing on your computer. The Sound button in the game panel turns the move sounds off. Check your workplace's policy on games before you start.

Does it need Flash, Java or a download?

No. It is built for current browsers and needs nothing extra. Open the page and the board is there.

What happens if the wifi drops mid-game?

Games against the computer keep going once you have played one with a connection. Online games need the internet. You can also install the site from your browser and open it like an app.

Is it suitable for kids at school?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no pop-ups. Online opponents can't type messages to each other: the only chat is six preset emotes. The rest of the site is rules, lessons and puzzles.

Can two students share one Chromebook?

Yes. Press 2 Players and pass the Chromebook back and forth. Each move is a tap or a drag.
