Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 11, 2026

Checkers Online ("we", "us") provides free browser-based checkers games. This policy explains what data we collect and how it is used. You do not need an account to play against the computer or a friend, and we do not ask for personal details to use the games. An optional account (see below) unlocks a durable rating and the leaderboard.

Information we collect

Single-player and pass-and-play games run entirely in your browser and your moves are not sent to or stored on our servers. We collect limited information when you sign in, play online, or through the third-party services below.

Accounts and sign-in

Signing in is optional. You can sign in two ways: with Google, or with your email address. If you use Google, Google confirms who you are and shares a Google account identifier, along with your name and email, with us; we store the account identifier and do not store your Google name. If you use email, you enter your address and we send a one-time sign-in link to it — there is no password. Either way, we store your email address, shown only to you on your account page so you can see which account you are signed in with, and used to recognize you when you return and keep one account across your devices. Your email is never shown to other players. Other players and the leaderboard see only the display handle you choose, and, if you set one, a country flag. You can change your handle and flag at any time, or delete your account — which erases your email and sign-in — on the account page.

Online play and ratings

To play online we give your browser a device identity (stored locally as a random id and a friendly handle) so we can match you with an opponent and track a rating. When you finish a rated online game, we store a record of that game (the players, result, and time) and update each player's rating. Ratings and handles for signed-in accounts appear on the public per-variant leaderboard; guests receive a rating and level-matched games but do not appear on the leaderboard. Guest identities live only in your browser and are lost if you clear your browser data.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used (for example, which pages are visited and on what kind of device). It sets cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, browser, and pages viewed. We have turned on IP anonymization and turned off Google Signals, so the data is aggregated for first-party site analytics and is not used to build a cross-device advertising profile or to identify you personally. We do not display ads and do not use advertising cookies.

We also use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors interact with pages — mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and aggregated heatmaps — so we can improve the design. Clarity may record a session of your visit; the text you type and form fields (such as the sign-in email box) are masked by default, so their contents are not captured. Microsoft processes this data on our behalf and may also use it in line with its own privacy statement. Clarity sets cookies to recognize returning visits.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. If you sign in, we set an essential session cookie so we can keep you signed in; it holds a random session identifier, not your personal details, and is not used for tracking or advertising. We also use analytics cookies as described above. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the games will still work, though you may be signed out.

Your account data and deletion

If you have an account, you can delete it at any time from the account page. Deleting your account removes your sign-in (Google or email) and your profile (handle and flag), and takes you off the leaderboard. To keep other players' game histories and replays intact, records of games you already played are kept but are no longer linked to your name. Guest data (your local identity and per-device stats) is not held on our servers in a way that identifies you — clearing your browser data removes it from your device.

Your choices

  • You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser opt-out add-on.
  • You can clear cookies and site data from your browser settings.

Children

Checkers Online is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
